The Prieska solar park , also known as Mulilo Sonnedix Prieska , is an open- air photovoltaic system in South Africa , which is located about 50 km southwest of Prieska . The plant has an output of 86 MWp and extends over an area of 125 ha. It was built by the German company juwi , which will also take over the technical operation of the plant. The owner of the solar park is Sonnedix. The inauguration and handover took place in November 2016.
The electricity production costs are given as approx. 4 ct / kWh, which means that the power plant delivers cheaper electricity than comparable coal-fired power plants . The construction costs were estimated at around 1.2 billion South African rand .
More than 282,000 solar modules from the Chinese manufacturer BYD with an output of 305 watts and 96 inverters from AEG were used. The grid connection is made at the 132 kV level.
