Pay book

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

In the German military the pay book was the ID of the soldier and at the same time the proof of received clothing and equipment, wages ( pay ) and food. At the same time, it was used as an identity card for civilian police officers, but not as a passport, and was also the combatant ID required under international martial law .

In the document were entered

  • Personal data = national on pages 1 and 2
  • the claim to pay on pages 3–9

The most important part of the pay book were the decade coupons stuck into the back cover, which were cut off after the wages were paid.

Depending on the fonts, papers and machine equipment available, the respective appearance results. Pay books usually have a cardboard cover in muted colors from chamois to dark brown, are mostly stapled with clips and very rarely with thread, and the dimensions are between 7.5 and 8.5 cm in width and between 12.5 and 14 cm in height.
