Sole Remedy is a Finnish progressive metal band from Lahti that was formed in 1998.

history

The band was founded in 1998 by guitarist and singer Jukka Salovaara, drummer Henry Silmonen and bassist Toni Mäkinen. Together they initially developed a few pieces, at which point the songs were more oriented towards progressive rock , blues rock and fusion rock. In 2002 the music got heavier. In 2003 guitarist Mikko Laine joined the band as a new member.

In 2007, work on the debut album The Wounded Ones was finished. The recordings took place in the summer of the same year. The album was released in 2008. It was released in limited numbers and was mainly sold during concerts.

In the spring of 2009, the band went back to the studio to record the second album called Apoptosis . The album was recorded, mixed and produced by band member Salovaara. The work was finished in the summer. In October, bassist Mäkinen left the band and was replaced by Artturi Sipilä. In addition, keyboardist and singer Eetu Karioja was another member of the band. The album was released through Aftermath Music in October .

In October 2011 the band performed for the first time abroad at ProgPower Europe , which took place in the Netherlands . After the festival, Mikko Laine was involved in a traffic accident on October 3, in which he died.

In 2012 Eetu Karioja also left the band, so that there were only three of them.

style

The band's music is very varied, which is evident from the vocals, which fluctuate between clear and guttural passages. The works are described as a mix of bands such as Opeth , Porcupine Tree and Katatonia .
