Solomon Grigorjewitsch Michlin ( Russian Соломон Григорьевич Михлин , English transliteration Solomon Grigor'evich Mikhlin ; born April 23, 1908 in Belarus ; †  August 30, 1990 in Leningrad ) was a Russian mathematician who worked with partial differential equations, mathematical, integral equations and numerical equations Math busy.

Michlin studied in Leningrad, where he graduated in 1929 and received his habilitation in 1935 (Russian doctorate). He was a professor from 1937, first at the Seismological Institute of the Academy of Sciences in Leningrad, then at the Alma Ata University and from 1944 at the Leningrad University . Michlin is known for numerous monographs and textbooks on differential equations and integral equations from mathematical physics and methods of their numerical treatment.

His doctoral students include Arno Langenbach , Wladimir Mazya and Siegfried Prößdorf , who also translated many of Michlin's books into German.

He was a member of the Accademia dei Lincei and an honorary doctorate from the University of Chemnitz (1968). In 1970 he was elected a member of the Leopoldina .
