The solvadis group is a German group of companies that is active in the marketing and distribution of basic and specialty chemicals. The origins of the company go back to the Metallgesellschaft , the year it was founded in 1881. Today's group of companies was created through a takeover in 2004 and until 2017 belonged to the equity investment company Orlando Management AG. The solvadis group was sold to the Japanese group Sojitz Corporation on March 30, 2017.
The Solvadis Group specializes in trading and distributing raw materials for the chemical industry. In addition to the main company Solvadis Germany , the group also consists of the German companies Solvadis Commodity Chemicals (sales of sulfur and sulfuric acid), Solvadis Distribution (petrochemicals and solvents), Solvadis Methanol (methanol), Solvadis Polymers (polymers) and Solvadis Specialties (specialty chemicals) as well Chemag agrochemicals (fertilizers) and Chemfidence Services ( packaging and personal protective equipment ). In addition, there are subsidiaries and sales companies in Belgium and France as well as outside of Europe in Russia and China.
After the takeover by the private equity company Orlando Management , which specializes in special situations , the group of companies was sold through the sale of individual companies, including a. restructured from Solvadis CPC to Friedrich Scharr KG, as well as reducing the workforce by around two thirds to 200. Additional measures included building up staff in the core business and further professionalizing management skills in purchasing and sales. Despite the downsizing of the operative business - also due to changed world market prices - the group turnover rose in the first four years from 0.4 to 1.1 billion euros. These figures were confirmed again at the end of 2013 by Managing Director Andreas Weimann.
