Soma Cycle Inc. is an American bicycle constructor, designer and importer based in San Francisco . The company sells bicycle frames , components and accessories.
The owner of a bicycle shop, Bradley Woehl, asked Jim Porter, President of Merry Sales Co. in 2001, if he could arrange for him to produce steel frames in Taiwan . He wanted to offer his own chromoly steel frames (chrome molybdenum , in the USA 4130) for his customers. Woehl and Porter worked together and built the Soma brand. The mechanics were inspired by the bicycle culture of San Francisco ( Critical Mass etc.) and the need for inexpensive bikes suitable for everyday use. Soma wheels are made from Tange tubes .
Soma founded their own manufacturer of transport bikes and bicycle trailers with the company Zigo in South Orange , New Jersey . The design of the Zigo Leader child carrier was introduced by Michael Ehrenreich in 2004.
