The Sombre Point ( English for gloomy headland ) is a headland in the northwest of Saunders Island in the archipelago of the South Sandwich Islands . It marks the northwest end of Cordelia Bay .
The UK Antarctic Place-Names Committee named it in 1971 after the dark basalt and volcanic ash in the area.
