At the Summer Paralympics 2020 in Tokyo , medals will be awarded in a total of 20 bench press competitions (also: powerlifting or weight pulling ). The decisions will be made between August 27 and 31, 2020.

80 athletes take part in the men's competitions and 80 female athletes in 10 weight classes each. There are also 20 participants who are classified as “gender-free”. There are 10 decisions each in the men's and women's competitions.

Qualification

The athletes are qualified individually and not through the respective national associations (National Paralympic Committees, NPCs). However, each NPC can only provide one athlete per medal competition and a maximum of eight athletes in total.

The eight best-placed athletes and the eight best-placed female athletes in each body weight category listed on the World Para Powerlifting Paralympic ranking list ending on April 23, 2020 are directly qualified. If more athletes are nominated per NPC as a result of the direct qualification than they are entitled to, they must name eight athletes to participate.
