The summer festival of the Meiningen Theater is a cultural event that takes place every two years at the end of the theater season in the theater town of Meiningen at the end of June or beginning of July . The event is organized by the Meiningen State Theater .

The summer festival of the Meininger Theater is one of the largest regularly held events of its kind in Germany and is a highlight of entertainment in the region. The open air festival attracts up to 4,000 visitors on average. In addition to the people of Meiningen, the guests come from Thuringia , Hesse and Bavaria .

The venue is the area around the theater's Great House and Scenery House and a surrounding two-hectare part of the English Garden . The large pond and other parks are included in the games. Under changing slogans , which are selected according to current outstanding productions or anniversaries, members of the house and invited artists offer a program with plays, concerts, musical entertainment, shows and artistry on several stages. The motto of the summer festival 2005 was, for example, “Meiningen Beach” and the year 2008 was under the sign of “Neptune and entourage”. In 2009 the theme related to the Schiller Year and was “Shimmering! - Swiss night with Tell ”. The highlight of every summer festival is a 15-minute themed firework display with background music. As part of the festival, marquees, cafes and bars have opened, in which several bands and discos offer musical entertainment.

Due to the reconstruction of the Meininger Theater in 2010/11, the summer festival had to pause and was only continued again in 2013 under the motto “The Wild East” with guest star Karat . The summer festival has been held since 2013, alternating with the Meininger Bühnenball , which is also held every two years , with the mottos “Transylvanian Nights” (2015), “Fiesta Latina” (2017) and “Walk of Fame” (2019).
