Sommerset (Sørfold)

Sommerset (also spelled Sommarset ) is a former ferry port on the E6 in the municipality of Sørfold in Nordland in Norway . The place is on the south side of the Leirfjord , a branch of the Sørfolda fjord .

history

Since 1941 there has been a ferry between Røsvik on the west side of Sørfolda and Bonåsjøen on the north side of Leirfjord. When the Straumen- Sommerset road was opened in 1966 , the southern ferry terminal was moved to Sommerset and the ferry route was shortened.

The ferry connection between Sommerset and Bonåsjøen remained in operation for 20 years until the ferry-free E6 between Sommerset and Sildhopen was opened in 1986.
