Summer good moor

The Sommersguter Moor is a moor area in the municipality of Wenigzell in Styria .

The moor is located north of Wenigzell in the locality Am Rain in the locality of Sommersgut in a small basin and is characterized by its almost completely natural state. Only the spruce forest on the edge is managed for forestry purposes. This seclusion and the unique landscape characterize the moor in a special way and it represents an archive for researching the post-glacial vegetation history.

The bog mountain pine ( Pinus rotundata ) stands out as a floristic specialty . In the bog itself, the herb layer mainly contains blueberries ( Vaccinium myrtillus ) and heather ( Calluna vulgaris ). In the moss layer of the bog, peat moss dominates and an unregulated stream with accompanying vegetation runs along the edge.

The moor is designated as a nature reserve ( list entry ).
