Freckles is a song by the Berlin band UKW , which was released in 1982 and is attributed to the Neue Deutsche Welle .
History of origin
UKW was founded in 1979. In 1981 they took part in a Berlin Neue Welle rock competition and took first place there. So they were able to release their first single in December 1981 . Then they managed to get a contract with Telefunken . In 1982 they recorded their first ultra short wave album , which also contained freckles . The song describes the love for a girl with freckles . The song was dedicated to Peter Hubert's childhood sweetheart Tina, the name also appears in the lyrics. In fact, Peter Hubert is still with this woman today. The title and the slightly modified chorus line come from the hit song of the same name by Peter Igelhoff from 1937, in which it says "I'm completely crazy about your freckles".
Freckles was released as a single from the album and became UKW's first and biggest hit. It was played in the ZDF hit parade and Bio's Bahnhof , among others . In Germany, the song was able to place itself at number five in the single charts . While the band was commercially successful, it was considered a teenage band in critical circles.
