from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Son By Four is a Puerto Rican salsa band .

Career

Son By Four was best known for their English-language pop hit "Purest of Pain", which they recorded for Sony Music Entertainment . Son by Four consists of the Panamanian producer and songwriter Omar Alfanno as well as Angel López, Pedro Quiles and the brothers Javier Montes and George Montes. In 1998 the group began their career with the songs "No Hay Razon" and "Nada", which became smaller hits on the Billboard Latin Tracks. In 1998 they took the album "Preparense" and went on tour with the songs from it. In 2000 they had their breakthrough with "A Puro Dolor", which stayed on the Billboard Latin Singles Chart for a year, at number one for twenty weeks. A ballad version of “A Puro Dolor” became the theme of the Mexican television soap opera “La Calle de las Novias”. The English language version "Purest of Pain" reached number 26 on Billboard's Pop Music Charts and sold 315,000 copies in the US and over a million copies worldwide. With this song Son By Four won four awards at the Billboard Music Awards in December 2000 and seven awards at the Billboard Latin Music Awards in April 2001, as well as the title Hot Latin Track Artist of the Year. The following salsa albums by the group Salsa Hits (2001) and Renace (2004) could not build on the old successes. From 2007 Son By Four changed their musical style from Latin Pop, Salsa and Ballad to Christian music and recorded religious albums such as “Aquí está el Cordero” and “Abbanuestro”.
