Sonia Meilland , syn. MEIhelvet, 'Sweet Promise', Sonia or 'Sonja', is a salmon-pink blooming hybrid tea rose that was brought onto the market in 1971 by the rose- growing family Meilland . It is a cross of 'Zambra' × ( 'Baccará' × 'White Knight') and named after the daughter and granddaughter of the breeders Alain and Marie-Louise Meilland . With over 40 million plants sold, 'Sonia Meilland' is one of the most successful rose varieties that is also grown for the floristry industry.
The hybrid tea has very beautiful, slightly fruity scented flowers on long stems with around 30 petals. 'Sonia Meilland' has shiny, dark foliage, reaches a height of about 1.30 m and a width of about 0.6 m and is moderately hardy ( USDA Zone 7b). The frequently blooming rose blooms outdoors in warm places from the beginning of June to the end of the season in October and is a good cut rose.
