Sonja Peters

Sonja Peters (born October 25, 1976 in Eindhoven ) is a Dutch wheelchair tennis player . She has been one of the best players in the world since 1998.

Peters has suffered from a hereditary dysfunction in both ankles since she was born . She started playing wheelchair tennis at the age of 16.

At the Wheelchair Tennis Masters she was twice in the finals: in 2000 in doubles with Esther Vergeer and in 2002 in singles. She achieved the greatest success of her career in 2004 at the Paralympics in Athens , where she won the silver medal after losing to her compatriot Esther Vergeer.
