The Sunday newspaper (full name: Sunday newspaper for Styria ) is a Roman Catholic weekly newspaper of the Styrian diocese of Graz-Seckau . It is based in Graz .

history

"Styrian 2-Groschen-Blatt" (1932–1941)

On July 3, 1932, the first issue of the "Styrian 2-Groschen-Blatt" appeared. This magazine was the successor to the "Truth Friend". The Volksbund der Katholiken in Steiermark acted as editor and publisher, and its first editor was the Teufenbach pastor Viktor Lipusch. The "2-Groschen-Blatt" appeared fortnightly and had a volume of four pages.

Due to the annexation of Austria to Germany and the currency change , the name was changed to "Styrian Two-Pfennig-Blatt - Catholic Sunday Gazette". Owner, editor and publisher was the prince-bishop's Seckau ordinariate in Graz. Josef Pfandl was considered the editor in charge. Nothing changed in terms of size and frequency of publication. The “Easter number” on April 6, 1941 was the last edition of the church newspaper before the end of the war. The “two-penny sheet” was discontinued without notice.

"Sunday paper for Styria" (since 1945)

Only a few months after the end of the war, on September 16, 1945, the first edition of the “Sunday paper for Styria” appeared after a four-year break. Anton Fastl took over the editing of the paper, which is now published weekly. He held this position for almost four decades until his death in 1983. In 1955 the volume was tripled from four pages to twelve pages; In 1965, the now 16-page “Sunday paper” appeared for the first time with a four-color cover.

In 1984 Herbert Meßner took over the editorial team from his long-term predecessor. A decade and a half later, the Catholic weekly newspaper was completely redesigned in 1998. In 2005 the 24-page “Sonntagsblatt” was presented in full color for its 60th anniversary. In 2008 the layout was relaunched .
