The church, designed by the architect Gustaf Hermansson in the style of the transitional Romanesque style, is named after the wife of the Swedish King Oskar II . Construction began in 1902 on a 46 meter high mountain and was completed in 1906. From 1948 to 1951, the church and its furnishings were restored under the direction of Lars Israel Wahlman .
