Sophienheilstätte
The Sophienheilstätte for consumption addicts is a former lung sanatorium in Munich near Bad Berka in Thuringia . The building, idyllically located in the forest, was built in 1898 and has been vacant since 1994.
history
After it was founded on October 14, 1898, the clinic was built with the support of the Grand Ducal Family of Saxe-Weimar-Eisenach in a forest area above Munich, now a district of Bad Berka. It was named after the recently deceased Grand Duchess Sophie of Orange-Nassau . The house was initially used as a health resort for treating tuberculosis sufferers . By 1911, the number of beds rose to 200. From 1924, the conversion of the health resort into a clinical health center began in order to be able to undertake new treatment methods and appropriate surgical interventions for lung patients. For this purpose, new treatment rooms were created, laboratories built and X-ray machines procured.
In 1934 Adolf Tegtmeier became head of the Sophienheilstätte and contributed to its success. After 1945 he was able to prevent the conversion into a Soviet disease hospital. In 1947 Tonndorf Castle in Tonndorf was included in the tuberculosis sanatorium and modernized accordingly from 1950. After the new construction of a "Central Clinic for Lung Diseases and Tuberculosis" with 570 beds on the Harth, today's Central Clinic Bad Berka , which was operated by the Ministry of Health of the GDR and Tegtmeier from 1951 , the building served as their department for urology and orthopedics . From 1992 to 1994 the departments at the main site were merged and the historic building was cleared. Since then it has been left to decay.
In 2002, the Dr. Marx bought the property, but no investments were made. In 2015, a group of investors was formed, which also included a number of Bad Berka residents, in order to renovate the Sophienheilstätte in accordance with historical monuments and to revive it as a senior citizens' residence with a high standard.
At the beginning of 2020, no renovation or security measures were discernible, the exterior of the building is increasingly deteriorating.
Location
The dilapidated building served as a backdrop for various film and television productions such as Wigald & Fritz - The history hunters of the private broadcaster History or the crime scene: The Last Schrey .
