Charlene Soraia (* in Sydenham , London ) is a British folk singer.
Career
Soraia learned to play guitar on her father's instrument at the age of five. She first appeared in front of an audience three years later. After completing her schooling, she passed the entrance exam at the BRIT School , even though she was self-taught . During this time she received her first invitations as a guest musician from artists such as Stephen Fretwell, Howard Elliot Payne, Kami Thompson and Jon Allen. She joined the band Retrospect and in 2006 her first EP was released under the title Lemonade . From 2008 she made solo appearances again and two more EPs were released in the same year. With Daffodils & Other Idylls she reached number 1 on the British folk charts on iTunes.
Her commercial breakthrough came in autumn 2011 with a cover version of the hit Wherever You Will Go , originally by the American rock band The Calling from 2001, which she recorded for an advertising campaign for the British tea manufacturer Twinings . The debut album Moonchild was released in early December 2011, but did not go beyond number 83 on the charts.
