Sosyal Demokrasi Partisi

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Sosyal Demokrasi Partisi (abbr .: SODEP ; German: Party of Social Democracy ) was a political party in Turkey that was founded in June 1983 by social democratic politicians under the leadership of Erdal İnönü .

The SODEP was a center-left party in the tradition of the CHP , which, like all other political parties, was banned during the military coup of 1980 and party assets were confiscated. After SODEP achieved the second-best result (after the ANAP ) in the local elections in 1984 with over 23 percent , it united in November 1985 with the politically similar Halkçı Parti (Populist Party) to form the social democrat Halkçı Parti (Social Democratic Populist Party).
