The Soul Captain Band is a Finnish reggae band from Helsinki .

Band history

The Soul Captain Band was founded in 1997 by the singer Jukka Poika , the guitarist Seppo Salmi, the keyboardist Tommi Tikkanen and the brothers Jori and Kari Hulkkonen. Two years later they released their first EP and in 2001 the debut album Jokaiselle tulta followed . With that they made it into the top 10 of the Finnish album charts straight away.

The band kept taking on new members and Poika and Tikkanen founded the Kapteeni Ä-ni project together with Antti Hakala in 2002 , which combined reggae with electro and hip-hop. In the same year, singer Jukka Poika separated from the band to pursue his own projects and later a solo career. He was always supported by band members.

The Soul Captain Band continued with Hakala as the new lead singer and released the album Tanssijan valinta in 2004 . It was able to repeat the success of the first album and produced a top 10 single with Vauvantekohomma .

Since then, the band has been a loose bunch of different members who occasionally performed under the old name until 2009. Most of the musicians are still on the road as a Sound Explosion Band with various singers, including Jukka Poika, as a tour and accompanying band. In addition, some members are also active in other projects.
