Soundslides

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Soundslides is a popular software for creating audio slideshows . The current version Soundslides Plus 1.9.3 was released in August 2009. It is distributed over the Internet by Soundslides, LLC. The full version is chargeable, but almost all functions are included in the free demo version. Audio slideshows created with Soundslides are exported as Flash Video . They consist of several individual files.

development

Soundslides was developed by Joe Weiss . However, he does not see himself as a software developer, but as a journalist. According to his own statement, the idea for the program came from a workshop on photo journalism.

criticism

Although the software is widely used, its capabilities are very limited. Only MP3 or AIF files can be used as audio files; images must be in JPG format. Separate programs have to be used for both image and sound processing, as no editing is provided for in the sound slides themselves. In addition, the export of the finished slideshow is only possible to a limited extent. The normal output format consists of a file folder with several files. This not only contains the audio slideshow itself, but also the HTML page surrounding it. This is very unfavorable for publication in content management systems that are now common . However, Soundslides offers the possibility of receiving code to embed in a blog via a web tool . A conversion to MP4 format is also offered to users of a registered program version. However, some of the effects are lost. In addition to the weaknesses in terms of content, it is frequently emphasized, also by experts, that video formats offer significantly more options. Soundslides developer Joe Weiss announced in an interview in May 2009 that he would be reacting to some of the criticisms (sound processing in the program, integration of video formats) in a newer version. So far, however, these changes have not been implemented.
