Glovet basement
Glovet's basement , restored in the 1980s, is located approximately southwest of Downpatrick in County Down in Northern Ireland . In the case of basements , a basic distinction is made between "rock-cut", "earth-cut", "stone built" and "mixed" basements.
description
The newly created entrance is through a shaft and down by means of a metal ladder to a well-preserved corridor of this “stone-built” basement, about 1.5 m high and 5.0 m long. The construction of sharp-edged stones is in good condition. The branch to the left is also about 5.0 m long. It is blocked by a concrete wall near the inner end.
The first hatch is about 1.0 m long. It leads into a corridor about 11.0 m long and 1.6 m high.
The second slip leads into an approximately 14.0 m long and 1.6 m high passage in which there can be water. There is a ventilation shaft. Both hatches are about 1.0 m wide and 0.5 m high. Before the second and third hatch, an approximately 50 cm high wall must be climbed before it goes down through a hole.
The third slip leads to the inner corridor, which is about 5.0 m long and wider than the rest. The inner corridor forms a T-shape with the rest of the basement.
