The basement of Releagh, discovered in 2015, is located in the townland of Releagh ( Irish Roilíoch ), on the N71 road between Bonane and Glengarriff near the border with County Cork in County Kerry in Ireland . In the case of basements , a distinction is made between “earth-cut”, “rock-cut”, “mixed”, “stone built” and “wooden” (e.g. Coolcran, County Fermanagh ). The basement of Releagh is one of the rare "rock-cut" specimens. The tunnel system was cut into the scree and bedrock and contains two chambers that are approximately 4.0 m wide.

The majority of Irish basements appear to have been built and used between 750 and 1250 AD. They are often found in connection with Duns or Ringforts (but there is no evidence of a Ringfort at Releagh).
