Antogny-le-Tillac basement
The basement of Antogny-le-Tillac in Touraine is in the Indre-et-Loire department in France .
The two closely adjacent basements of Bourg were discovered in 1931 in the chalk cliffs above Antogny-le-Tillac. They could not be explored because of the risk of collapse. They collapsed a few years later. Their location is unknown today. A chasm on the cliff west of the road at the northern exit of the village could be one of the underground structures.
The third basement, "La Grande Grille", is on the south side of the road, east of a row of quarries . The newly created entrance in the north is 1.0 m high. The first irregularly shaped chamber measuring around 5.0 x 5.0 m is 1.50 m high and full of earth. A north-south running almost completely buried corridor about 2.0 m east of the current access should be the actual one. A rectangular pit measuring 2.50 × 0.7 meters lies to the east. Another is in the southeast corner. Access to other rooms is via a 3.0 m long corridor in the east. Chamber 2 with a height of 1.8 m measures approximately 3.0 × 4.0 m. A slender column supports the ceiling. A rectangular 1.1 × 0.6 large opening in the ceiling, closed at the top, lies above a round recess in the floor. A collapsed corridor on the south side is close to the ground. In the north-west corner an approximately 6.0 m long inclined corridor opens to the north, which branches off to the east at the end and leads into the approximately round chamber 3, approximately 3.0 m in diameter and 1.0 m high. A rectangular opening in the ceiling measuring 1.2 × 0.65 m is closed by large stones. At the entrance to Chamber 3, a 0.4 to 0.5 m high, approximately 5.5 m long and 0.8 m wide gallery begins, which leads north to the approximately 4.0 m long, 3.3 m wide and 0, 5 m high chamber 4, which is almost completely filled with rubble and earth; with a collapsed pit in the northeast corner. Apart from chamber 4, the surface is dry and in good condition.
