South West Cape ,called Puhiwaero in the Māori language , is a cape on the New Zealand island of Stewart Island / Rakiura , which is part of the Southland District of the Southland region.

South West Cape is located in the southwest of the island, just under one kilometer west of Flour Cask Bay, which protrudes around 1.5 km into the island . The South Cape , as the southernmost point of Stewart Island / Rakiura and the three main islands of the country, is about 5.5 km to the east. Slightly to the south is the Stewart Island / Rakiura offshore Murphy Island, measuring 265 m × 135 m .

Around 5 km west of the cape is the 820 m × 835 m large island of Poutama Island and directly to the north of Taukihepa / Big South Cape Island , which is considered the second largest island near Stewart Island / Rakiura .
