South West Surrey is a constituency for the House of Commons in the county of Surrey . The constituency was created in 1983 and covers much of Farnham , Godalming and Haslemere . He sends a representative to parliament.

history

The constituency has been represented by members of the Conservative Party since the 1983 general election. All members of parliament for this constituency were members of the government bank ( frontbencher ).

In the 1983 elections, Maurice Macmillan , the son of the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom Harold Macmillan, won the seat and served as a member of parliament until his death in 1984. The by-election was won by Virginia Bottomley, Baroness Bottomley of Nettlestone , who was Minister of Health in the Cabinet of Prime Minister John Major and a member of the House of Commons until 2005 and was then appointed to the House of Lords . Since the general election in 2005 , Jeremy Hunt , who among other things was Foreign Minister under Prime Minister Theresa May , has represented the constituency in the House of Commons.

In April 2013, the constituency had an unemployment rate of just 1.6%. This value was significantly lower than the national average of 3.8%.
