Social compass Europe
The Social Compass Europe is an interactive information system on the social security systems of the 28 member states of the European Union . For each country, information is provided on 15 topics from family to social emergencies. The data can be called up and compared according to the individual information requirements. The database is fully updated once a year.
The Social Compass Europe is a free information service from the Federal Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs .
history
The first forerunner of the Social Compass Europe was published as a brochure in 1993.
It was published under the title Euro Atlas: Social Security in Comparison , published by the Federal Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs. “The brochure is [was] an offer so that citizens can find out more about social Europe and its diversity.” In 2003, the title was changed to Social Compass Europe: Social Security in Comparison .
With the expansion from then 12 to now 28 EU states , the database had to be reorganized from 2011. "In order to be able to react as quickly as possible to changes in an ever faster developing and increasingly complex Europe, the tabular comparisons of the 'Social Compass Europe' are published in the form of a database."
The database Sozialkompass Europa is available online on the website www.sozialkompass.eu. In addition, the data is on DVD under the title Database Social Compass Europe. In the 25th year of the Social Compass Europe, the website of the Social Compass Europe has been given a new look in responsive design . Database
As an interactive information system, the database makes it possible to compare the 28 EU countries with one another on the horizontal level and to display the 15 categories on the vertical level. An individual selection of different sub-areas of the subject areas is also possible. In addition, the country codes of the 28 EU member states can also be included. The tables created in this way can be exported as XLS files or printed directly.
In addition to the database, the site also offers various services and assistance with use. News reports on social issues in Europe are published regularly. An extensive glossary of social policy terms is also available. In addition, there are information and help offers in easy language and in the form of videos in German sign language .

The country codes as an element of the database offer the most important information on an EU member state at a glance. These include, among other things, the official language, country structure, geography or form of government. Also, GDP , population figures, unemployment and age distribution of the population as well as information on EU Commissioner , to provide the land and other figures such as minimum wage and annual average incomes are represented there.

The regular news reports in easy language on various topics of social security in Europe and on the subject of disabilities are an integral part of the program. They are supplemented by a wide range of videos in German sign language. They explain the European social compass and its use and cover the subject of disability in the EU .

The database primarily evaluates various information systems of the European Union, but also central information offers on the relevant topics and relevant publications from the 28 member states. The Mutual Information System on Social Protection ( MISSOC ), the European Job Mobility Portal ( EURES ), the Statistical Office of the European Union ( EUROSTAT ) and the offers of the International Labor Organization ( ILO ) are used for social and work issues . The Academic Network of European Disability Experts ( ANED ) is also used as a source for the topic of “disability” .
