Social pedagogical assistance

Socio-educational assistant or Sozialpädagogischer Assistant (SPA), also known as nanny or child care, is a professional training in Germany. SPA differ from the job description of social assistance .

The two or three year training is regulated individually by the federal states.

Scope of training

The SPA training includes a.

  • Opportunities to support language development in children
  • Formation and change of interpersonal relationships
  • Group processes (knowledge and control)
  • Use of media for educational purposes

Practical exercises and extracurricular internships complement the theoretical part of the training.

entry requirements

As a rule, the successful completion of the secondary school leaving certificate is required. In some federal states, knowledge of housekeeping or social care is also required.

Additional requirements can be

  • medically attested health suitability
  • criminal record certificate
  • First aid course
  • Instruction according to §§ 42/43 of the Infection Protection Act
