Artà social center

The Artà social center is a historic building in the Spanish municipality of Artà in the northeastern part of the Mediterranean island of Mallorca .

location

It is located in the old town of Artà, at Carrer de Rafel Blanes 10 , directly opposite the junction with Carrer d'Antoni Blanes Joan .

Architecture and history

The building was erected in 1864 in the classicism style. At the beginning of the 20th century it became the seat of the local savings bank Caja Rural . It served as the town hall in the 1930s and 1940s as the actual town hall of Artà was under construction. Modifications were also made for the various purposes. Originally there was a garden and a basement on one side . On the Söller there were sculptures representing Leibniz and Descartes. While the garden had to give way to an extension of the house, the Söller disappeared in favor of adding another storey. The facade of the three-storey building is symmetrical. It is structured by white fluted pilasters with Ionic capitals . An architrave with a decorative strip spans above the pilasters . The base of the house is clad with stone slabs.

At the entrance there is a semicircular tympanum made of stained glass . The entrance area is flanked by two half-columns that support the tympanum. They are decorated with an Ionic capital and a fluted shaft. A balcony with a wrought iron grille is arranged in front of the piano nobile .

The interior of the building is symmetrically structured. The staircase leading to the upper floor is designed in the classicism style.

The building is owned by the local parish. Bellpuig magazine is also located in the building .
