Sociocultural Constructivism

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Sociocultural constructivism is a branch of constructivism that is dedicated to the construction of reality in sociocultural systems.

In a broader sense, socio-cultural constructivism is a collective term for constructivist approaches in the socio-cultural field. This includes, for example, the interactionist constructivism with which Kersten Reich has opened up educational and didactic fields of application.

Socio-cultural constructivism according to SJ Schmidt

In a narrower sense, sociocultural constructivism describes a research approach by the literary and communication scientist Siegfried J. Schmidt . It is also called Siegen constructivism .

The starting point is the social constructionism of the American psychologist Kenneth J. Gergen , who opposed Descartes ' sentence "I think, therefore I am" : "I am linked therefore I am" (German : "I am networked, therefore I am" ). Following these considerations, Schmidt assumed that human observers “always operate 'in a culturally and socially structurally very sustainably' marked space '” (Mike Sandbothe 1994, 47). Schmidt does this as follows:

Actants ' constructions of reality are subject-bound, but not subjective in the sense of arbitrary, intentional or relativistic. This is precisely because individuals are always too late in their constructions of reality [...]: Everything that becomes conscious presupposes inaccessible neural activities from the consciousness; everything that is said presupposes the unconsciously acquired command of a language; What is talked about in what way and with what effects, all of this presupposes socially regulated and culturally programmed discourses in social systems. In this respect, these processes of the construction of reality organize themselves and thereby generate their own orders of reality (s). "
