Sociopolis

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Soziopolis ( Soziopolis - Society Observe ) is an online specialist forum for contemporary social sciences, especially sociology. With the freely accessible offer of essays, interviews, reviews of current publications, conference reports, job advertisements, call for papers and event announcements, Soziopolis is also aimed at an interested public. Soziopolis has been developed at the Hamburg Institute for Social Research (HIS) since 2015 .

The name is composed of the Latin term socialis and pólis , the ancient Greek term for civil parish and expresses the concern for a pluralistic exchange on the constitution of society.

structure

The central editorial office is based in Hamburg and consists of a team led by Martin Bauer, Stephanie Kappacher, Karsten Malowitz, Hannah Schmidt-Ott, Andreas Häckermann, Philipp Tolios and Wibke Liebhart. It is supported by a volunteer editorial team of around forty, who are the contact persons for their own subject area and who, among other things, provide reviews. Further support is provided by the advisory board and cooperation partners such as the Max Planck Institute for Social Research , the Frankfurt Institute for Social Research and, in an outstanding way, the specialist information service H-Soz-Kult . Soziopolis has been financed by the Hamburg Institute for Social Research since it was founded.

As a rule, the contributions come from external scientists and scholars, who can also contact the editorial team directly with their suggestions.

profile

The range of topics reflects the entire breadth of the subject of sociology and related social science disciplines. The focus is on a methodically and theoretically guided reflection on current social phenomena. In addition to content-related contributions and focal points (including on classics such as Marx, Durkheim, Simmel or on topics such as big data, the escalation of violence or the shadow economy), Soziopolis offers specific specialist information.

This includes reports on conferences such as the congresses of the German Society for Sociology , magazine reviews, an overview of current call for papers, an exchange for jobs and grants, announcements of relevant events as well as news about current events that are of particular importance for the subject of sociology .

The freely accessible content of Soziopolis can be accessed via the website itself, by subscribing to a newsletter, RSS feed, Twitter and Facebook.
