from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

SpaceLoft is the name of a sounding rocket that is developed and built by UP Aerospace . It is produced in two variations: SpaceLoft and SpaceLoft XL.

SpaceLoft

The single-stage rocket has a diameter of 22 centimeters and a length of 4.9 meters. It can bring a mass of 9 kilograms on a suborbital trajectory at an altitude of 129 kilometers.

SpaceLoft XL

The single-stage rocket has a diameter of 25 centimeters and a length of 6.1 meters. It can bring a mass of 50 kilograms on a suborbital trajectory at an altitude of 225 kilometers. The rocket takes 90 seconds to reach the Kármán Line (the defined beginning of space).

Flights

1. Launch, September 25, 2006, SpaceLoft XL, failure

The first flight took place on September 25, 2006 from Spaceport America in Upham ( New Mexico ), but the attempt failed when the rocket deviated from course at an altitude of about twelve kilometers. Several dozen arrangements were on board as a payload, mostly scientific experiments by students from a high school and college. Experiments from the following universities were also on board: University of Colorado at Boulder, Brown University (in cooperation with AeroAstro, Inc.), University of Hartford, Central Connecticut State University and New Mexico State University. The duration of the stay in space on a suborbital orbit is approximately five minutes, the flight should take a total of 13 minutes.

2. Start, April 28, 2007, SpaceLoft XL, success

The second flight took place on April 28, 2007. Customer was u. a. Space Services Inc., which had the ashes of US actor James Doohan (alias "Scotty" from the Star Trek series) transported into space and then parachuted back to the surface of the earth. Experiments from schools and universities were also on board.

3. Launch, December 19, 2007, SpaceLoft ?, success

The third flight took place on December 19, 2007. It was a test launch that had not been previously announced. The customer was a company that does not want to be named and that placed the order with the flight to test new technologies. As planned, it reached a height of 820 (sic!) Meters.

4. Start, May 2, 2010, success

The fourth launch, Mission SL-4, took place on May 5, 2010. Experiments by students were on board.
