Upham (New Mexico)
The ghost town of Upham , New Mexico is located approximately 50 km east of the village of Truth or Consequences and 70 km north of Las Cruces in the Jornada del Muerto valley at an altitude of 1,390 m. The valley is crossed by a north-south connection of the Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe Railway . The place was created when the railway was built in 1881 as a workers' settlement, but the inhabitants could not survive in the harsh climate of the region.
Upham became famous for the Spaceport America spaceport, which opened nearby in October 2011 .
