Spallanzani is an impact crater south of the lunar front , east of Barocius crater and south of Nicolai . The rim of the crater is irregularly shaped and moderately eroded, the interior of the crater is largely flat.

The crater was officially named by the IAU in 1935 after the Italian polymath Lazzaro Spallanzani .
