Founding history

The first suggestion to found a community savings bank in 1872 was followed a year later by the setting up of a committee to found an association savings bank. In 1874 the founding capital of 2,100 guilders was raised by 25 founding members. In mid-March, the Ministry of the Interior approved the establishment of an association savings bank, and the statutes were sanctioned at the end of May. It was opened on the last day of September 1874.

Structural development of the main institute

In 1885, the planning of a building began to house the Imperial and Royal District Court, the Imperial and Royal Tax Office and the Sparkasse. In December 1886 the "splendid building, which can serve as an ornament to any large city" (quote from the history of the market town of Haugsdorf, vol. I) was available. In 1960 there was a major renovation. The area of the checkout hall could be doubled. In 1978 an extension provided additional space. In 2001 a self-service zone was established. In 2004 the business premises of Sparkasse Haugsdorf were renovated.

Business activity

The Sparkasse Haugsdorf has been operating as a regionally independent savings bank in the Pulkautal on the border with the Czech Republic since 1874. Its core area comprises the former judicial district of Haugsdorf. In the course of the opening of the border, the Sparkasse expanded its business activities to the neighboring areas of the Czech Republic. Mergers are not envisaged.
