Bay in Specchiola

Specchiolla is a seaside resort in the Italian Puglia , about 20 km northwest of Brindisi . It belongs to the municipality of Carovigno , which is in the province of Brindisi .

history

Specchiolla belonged to San Vito dei Normanni in the past . The local nobility used the place as a recreation and bathing center. The Lord of San Vito later handed Specchiolla over to his cousin, the Prince of Carovigno .

Until the 1990s, Specchiolla was a popular holiday region with many tourist offers. Most of the time, however, citizens from the surrounding area still use it today. In recent years, a lack of investment and neglect of tourism have increasingly meant that Specchiolla is no longer one of the main tourist destinations. The bays were temporarily used by the local farmers as a deposit for waste. Only later could they be released for bathing again after cleaning. Tourist destinations such as bars, restaurants and hotels have also sprung up in these bays.
