Speed slalom

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

In the speed slalom it comes to a track with a certain number of cones (Cones) on in-line skates or roller skates in the shortest possible time to cover.

Competitions

There are different types of speed slalom competitions. The type of time measurement and the distance of the approach play a role. Decisive for the placement is the time but also the correctness of the driving, since errors (touched or not driven cones) are counted towards the total result with penalty times.

Speed slalom in IFSA and WSSA mode

As part of the two large umbrella organizations of the "International Freestyle Skater Association (IFSA)" and the "World Slalom Skater Accociation (WSSA)", speed slalom competitions are always over a distance of 20 cones at a distance of 80 cm and a run-up distance of 12 m carried out. The measurement takes place from the start of the approach to the crossing of a "virtual" 21 cone, i.e. a measuring system that measures the time 80 cm behind the 20th cone. In addition to the time, a penalty time of 0.2 seconds will be added to the overall result for errors (touched or missed cones). The winner can be determined in two ways.

Time measurement Each driver has a variable number of attempts to drive the best time in the speed slalom, depending on the event. The driver with the best time takes first place. All other drivers are assigned to the time according to the places.

Speed Slalom Battle In a battle two participants always compete against each other at the same time. The winner of a lap is the driver who can show the best time after adding up the error times. Several laps are driven until one of the participants has won two laps. In battle mode, the next opponent is assigned to the winner as part of a regular elimination process until two drivers remain who then contest the final.

Speed slalom with time measurement only within the cones

Alternative timing is often used in various other competitions. The time between the passage of the first cone and the last cone is used as the time base. In addition to the time, an addition of error seconds is also used here to determine the overall result. Start-up and other parameters vary depending on the organizer. Among other things, this mode is used at the annual competitions in Monza.
