Spenser Mountains

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Spenser Mountains are a mountain range in the north of the South Island of New Zealand . The most important peaks are Mount Una and Mount Humboldt. Much of the forest in the area consists of southern beeches with an undergrowth of ferns and shrubs. Blechnum discolor fern is one of the dominant species of ferns in the undergrowth.

There are no settlements or roads in the mountains themselves. The northwestern part of the range is in Nelson Lakes National Park .

Rivers that have their source in the Spenser Mountains are the Clarence River , Matakitaki River , Maruia River, and Wairau River .
