A lock screen ( English lock screen ) is a user interface element that many operating systems is used.

It regulates direct access to a device by requiring the user to perform a certain action, such as typing in a password , entering a certain key combination or using the gesture recognition via touchscreen, which is popular with mobile devices . Whereas most lock functions on normal desktop computers only use a login screen, the lock screens on mobile devices often offer greater functionality beyond simply unlocking a smartphone or tablet , such as e-mail , SMS or text notifications, date and time Time information or shortcuts of certain applications .

The lock screen is not to be confused with the status or notification bar , which offers similar overview functions when opened, but can be seen as part of the lock screen at the top when unfolded.
