Barrier well

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Barrier wells are hydraulic structures in landfills or in the event of soil contamination , which are created to protect the natural groundwater .

The water level in the polluted area is kept lower than the surrounding groundwater level by means of barrier wells or rows of barrier wells . This is to prevent contamination from seeping out. Also in the hydraulic remediation of contaminated sites , hydrodynamic conditions are influenced by means of barrier wells. In this process, contaminated groundwater is often pumped out of barrier wells using the so-called “pump-and-treat” method and fed to a cleaning system. The purified water is then brought back to the infiltration.
