The spit Castle , also Alteburg or Cluttinckhaus called, is a Outbound Wasserburg in Frechen in the Rhein-Erft district in North Rhine-Westphalia .
location
The castle formerly stood on the area of Frechener Hauptstrasse, which is now built with residential buildings, between Burgstrasse and Dr.-Tusch-Strasse.
history
The Spießburg was first mentioned in 1260, another source after 1256 in a document in which Winrich von Bachem transferred the fiefdom to the Curia of Cologne.
Due to armed conflicts, the castle complex burned down in 1320 and was rebuilt in the 15th century.
The castle complex then changed hands several times, like the Spies von Büllesheim. In 1776 the castle passed into noble hands.
The castle was abandoned around 1830.

Only views of the castle complex on various maps of the castle surroundings from the 18th and early 19th centuries have been preserved, which researchers can use as clues for an inventory of the castle grounds. Historical views of the castle that contain detailed information are not known.
From the maps of the castle surroundings it can be deduced that the castle grounds were once a two-part moated castle , which was accessed via a bridge and the outer castle . The outer bailey contained the living quarters of the servants, chicken, cow, horse and pig stables, as well as the barn and storage buildings. On the open side of the three-winged outer bailey was the castle house, which was also secured by a moat , with a farm yard. The castle house had two floors and a stepped gable facing the outer bailey. Structurally, this castle with its two corner towers of different sizes was probably built in the 17th century.
Gardens had been laid out to the south and north of the manor house. In the northern garden there was a fountain, stone garden sculptures and elaborately designed parterres .
