Kurhaus with casino (2008)

The Warnemünde casino belonged to the Spielbankgesellschaft Mecklenburg mbH & Co. KG, which operated another location in the state capital Schwerin . The two houses were also referred to as Mecklenburg casinos . The casino was housed in the Kurhaus in the Rostock district of Warnemünde . The Kurhaus is located on the beach promenade of the seaside resort. It was opened on August 6, 1998. The Warnemünde casino was one of a total of five casinos in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania. In 2013 operations had to be stopped.

Kurhaus

The construction of the Kurhaus Warnemünde began in 1914. Due to the war, it was not completed and opened until May 1928, with a restaurant and café. During the Second World War, ammunition parts were manufactured in the basement. Thanks to a camouflage, the Kurhaus survived the bombing raids without major damage. During the GDR era, the Kurhaus served as an event and congress center.

Extensive renovations were carried out from 1996 to 1998. The conversions took into account new usage concepts. A disco and dance bar was created in the basement, a structure for the kitchen area on the east facade, as well as the requirements for operating a casino with small (slot machines) and large (classic) games.

Casino

Before the closure, the large event hall of the Kurhaus was available for events and large poker tournaments . In the classic game there were tables for blackjack , roulette and poker , in the slot machine game there were various jackpots . There was a casino bar in both rooms. The Warnemünde casino played an important role in tourism in the Rostock region for many years. On August 5, 2013, the casinos in Warnemünde and Schwerin closed their operations. The reason for this was the low turnover in the low-income north-east of the country and, in the opinion of the casino, the excessive taxes paid to the country.
