The Games Max GmbH (proper spelling in capital letters ) is a trading company based in Berlin , the 64 stores in Germany and an online store for the sale of baby equipment, toys features and children's fashions.

history

On October 23, 1982, Spiele Max opened the first specialist market in the “Forum Steglitz” shopping center in Berlin. From 1990 the range was expanded to include baby equipment, and baby textiles were added later as “fashion for minis”. In March 1999 a branch opened in Berlin-Hohenschönhausen with over 3,000 m² of retail space. It is still the largest baby specialty store in Berlin and Brandenburg today. At the end of 1999, Spiele Max had 31 branches in northern and northeastern Germany. In 2006 the first three branches opened in Bavaria, from 2008 new branches were added annually in Germany, in 2012 nine branches.

Since August 21, 2014, Spiele Max has had another flagship store in Hofheim-Wallau with a retail area of ​​around 3,000 m² on two floors.

Spiele Max operates 64 branches in 14 federal states in Germany with around 30,000 items from different ranges, which are divided into the areas of babies, toys and children's fashion. The company employs around 630 people.

The company was founded in 1982 by Wilfried Franz as Spiele Max Wilfried Franz KG , inspired by Toys “R” Us in the United States. In 1997 the company was converted into the Spiele Max AG and in 2008 it was sold to the Polish Smyk Group for 9.1 million euros . The parent company of the Spiele Max AG is the Spiele Max Holding GmbH.

In August 2017, Palero Capital from Munich and the private equity fund Palero Invest S.à rl, headquartered in Luxembourg, took over the majority stake in Spiele Max AG from the Smyk Group, but sold the company in 2018 in a management Buy-out . On February 12, 2018, the stock corporation was converted into Spiele Max GmbH in accordance with the articles of association dated November 13, 2017.
