The Spiess was the only rigid airship made in France . It was built by the Société Française de Ballons Dirigeables et d'Aviation Zodiac according to plans by Joseph Spiess . The first flight took place on April 13, 1913. The airship did not meet the military's expectations and was dismantled in 1914.
