Joseph Spiess
Joseph Spiess (born September 10, 1838 in Mulhouse , Alsace , † March 31, 1917 ) was a French engineer. In 1873 he had a rigid airship patented. It was only built in 1913 with the 113 m long spit (Zodiak XII).
He was awarded the Militaire Medal for his service in the Franco-German War . He was also made a Knight of the Legion of Honor for his invention .
He is buried with other family members on the Cimetiere du Pere-Lachaise in Paris .
