Spindles

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

In the field of mobile machining , i.e. the on-site machining of large metal components, the term spindles has established itself as a term for the boring of bores. With this type of machining, the workpiece stands still, the tool rotates and is advanced through the hole.

With spindles, a mobile boring mill is fastened in front of a bore using clamping tools; a counter bearing can be mounted on the back of the bore. The spindle is guided through the boring mill, the bore and the counter bearing, a steel holder with the appropriate tool is attached to the spindle. By turning the spindle and at the same time pushing it forwards, a cutting tool is used to turn the hole from the inside.

In this way, a tight tolerance (technology) can also be generated on components that are too large for transport and / or a stationary machining center. A frequent application is working in tight spaces in complex systems.

origin

The term goes back to the word spindle , which originally referred to a tool for spinning .
