Jan van Staa (born May 27, 1955 in Utrecht ) is a former Dutch football player and coach . He is currently working as a scout for FC Twente Enschede .

Career

Jan van Staa was Rini Coolen's assistant at FC Twente Enschede from the 2004/05 season . In February 2006 van Staa replaced Coolen on the post of coach of the Enscheder. Twente lost 1-0 to Sparta Rotterdam on matchday 21 and slipped to 13th place in the Eredivisie . On February 1, Coolen was dismissed, shortly afterwards van Staa was introduced as the new person in charge. As an interim coach , he looked after the team until the end of the season. In his first game as head coach, he led the team to a 3-0 win against FC Utrecht and thus celebrated a good debut. In a total of thirteen games under his leadership, the team was able to achieve seven wins and four draws. Before van Staas took office, the club had only six competitive game wins. After all, he led the team to ninth place in the league and qualified for the UEFA Intertoto Cup . Despite the good performance, van Staa was replaced by Fred Rutten in the summer of 2006 . For a short time there were considerations to use van Staa again as assistant coach. However, it was decided in favor of René Eijkelkamp , who from then on took this place.

Van Staa was placed in the club's scouting department. He is currently looking after them as chief scout.
