Konstanz Hospital Foundation

The Konstanz Hospital Foundation was confirmed by a letter of foundation in 1225. The letter of foundation mentions that the hospital, founded in 1220 by the Constance citizens Heinrich von Bützenhofen and Ulrich Blarer, is to be protected and promoted by the Constance municipality and the city council. It still exists and is a non-profit and a legal local foundation under public law.

Areas of responsibility

It serves public health care through participation in the clinic network with the Konstanz Clinic and operation of the medical care center of the Konstanz Hospital Foundation. It maintains residential buildings and day-care centers for its employees, operates retirement and nursing homes and fulfills the requirements of the accepted foundations and bequests.

The Board of Trustees consists of the City Council of Konstanz. The chairman of the board of trustees is the mayor of the city of Konstanz. The foundation's assets of 56.976 euros (as of January 1, 1978) are to be retained in its portfolio.

In 2017 the hospital foundation had 300 employees from 42 nations. It holds a 24 percent share in the Konstanz Clinic and focuses on care for the elderly with four nursing homes, two facilities for assisted living, a day care and an outpatient care service. It provides the "Lorettowald" at the "Hörnle" as a local recreation area. On the Sierenmoos hospital grounds near the Konstanz Clinic, she is building apartments for the foundation's employees and the hospital.

The Spitalstiftung has income from leases: The Konstanz Spitalkellerei with vineyards in Konstanz and the Haltnau vineyard in Meersburg are leased. She has also leased the restaurant and conference hotel “Hedicke's Terracotta” at the clinic and the restaurant and hotel “Nicolai Torkel” at the Lorettowald.
