The Spitalkellerei Konstanz belongs since 1225 to the Hospital Foundation Constance and is the oldest existing Spitalkellerei Germany. The medieval cellar vaults of the hospital winery are located in Niederburg on the edge of the old town of Constance at Brückengasse 16.

The winery has been leased since 2002 and the lease is earmarked for the foundation. The Spitalstiftung has set itself the task of supporting needy and sick people and today runs several old people's and nursing homes as well as a hospital. In the past, the distribution of wine to the sick to support healing and strengthening was one of the tasks of the hospital foundation.

New tenants / business owners

The estate has not been run as a municipal operation since 2002. Stefan Düringer and Hubert Böttcher have been running the estate as Spitalkellerei Konstanz Böttcher & Düringer GbR since then .

Vineyards

Haltnau vineyard

In 2015, 150,000 liters of wine were produced on 350 hectares of cultivation area in Konstanz and Meersburg.

The winery cultivates eleven hectares in the individual vineyard in Meersburger Haltnau , four other leased hectares in Meersburg and 4.5 hectares in Konstanz on the Raiteberg below the Bismarck tower and 3.5 hectares in the Sierenmoos a little east of the Bismarck tower.

Are Plant the for the Bodensee typical traditional grape varieties such as Müller-Thurgau , Pinot Noir , Pinot Gris , Pinot Blanc , Traminer , Regent and more recently, Cabernet Mitos . When sparkling wine also comes Schwarzriesling used. The Haltnauer Weißherbst is well known .
